Plymouth Foam and BASF collaborated to support dog parents offering their dogs a lifestyle that is healthy, active and fun. Studies have shown that dogs require at least 30 minutes to two hours of exercise or playtime every day. There is a need to ensure that the materials used in toys for one of the favorite pets are nontoxic and durable, yet gentle.

The revolutionary Infinergy material enables the AIREHIDE pet toys to be abrasion-resistant, which allows for toys to better withstand the force from sharp dog teeth. Infinergy offers the most determined power chewers a good bite and the AIREHIDE toys stay intact.

“Producing pet toys presents a unique set of requirements — from features of safety, sustainability to ruggedness whilst still ensuring that the materials meet mechanical properties. At the same time, it has to also achieve the desired soft feel and resilience. Infinergy helps AIREHIDE fulfill all of these requirements,” said Dr. Jens P. Dierssen, head of Global Business Management Infinergy. The nature of the material produces erratic bounces, giving the dog a different challenge with every throw. The material is also certified BPA free and is engineered to keep dogs active during all types of play.

“While our team is new to SuperZoo, we are not new to pets and pet toys. We are pet people and have been working with our dogs and other dogs in field tests for nearly two years. Infinergy is the perfect material for this application and achieves our goal of creating toys that provide fun and healthy interactions between the pet parent and dog,” said David Bolland, president/CEO, Plymouth Foam. “Our new AIREHIDE brand dog toys are the first collaboration to come out of our relationship with BASF and we are excited to see what innovation comes next.”

North American production for Infinergy is located in Wyandotte, MI. BASF is working with Plymouth Foam as one of its molders to support applications in the region.

Beyond dog toys, Infinergy is also used in a wide range of proven applications that spans from footwear to sports equipment, flooring, furniture, and even in automotive applications such as car seats and airless tires.

(PRESS RELEASE) Extract Labs, a Colorado-based hemp extraction lab, has announced that it is funding cancer research currently being conducted at Colorado State University at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Specifically, researchers at CSU are conducting lab-based research on the impact of CBD against canine glioma, or brain and spinal cancer, cells. The research began in early 2019 to learn how CBD interacts with cancer cells, alone and in combination with a commonly used radiation therapy mechanism.

Cannabidiol or CBD has been shown to possess anti-tumor effects in human and rodent gliomas, and several studies demonstrate a similarity in canine and human gliomas. The initial phase of research is almost complete, and the team at Colorado State University hopes to publish study results within the next year.

“We are proud to be one of the few CBD companies in America currently funding canine cancer research through a university that is world-renowned for its medical care and research,” said Craig Henderson.

Extract Labs, a one-stop destination for a wide range of CBD products, is supplying all of the CBD isolate and oils being used for research in this study. Consumers who purchase Extract Labs products on the company’s website have the opportunity to donate towards the costs of funding the CSU study.

“While this research is in very early stages, we look forward to learning more about the potential impact that CBD has on canine glioma cells,” said Stephanie McGrath, a neurologist at CSU’s veterinary teaching hospital. McGrath is teaming up with Dan Gustafson, professor of pharmacology and biomedical engineering, on this study.

Managing Director of Sure Petcare David Hallas said, “It’s extremely rewarding for the company to have been selected as an honoree in the CES 2020 Innovation Awards competition. With pets increasingly becoming an extension of the family, our products are giving owners unprecedented insights into their pets’ lives. Our technology can help spot shifts in behavior and activity over time, which may signal changes in a pet’s health and well-being.

“CES is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential technology events and we’re looking forward to demonstrating our eco-system of smart products, which have firmly cemented our position as a leading pet technology company globally,” he said.

Sure Petcare will feature its latest pet technology products at its booth, with specialists on hand to demonstrate their features and benefits. ANIMO, the dog behavior and activity tracker, learns and interprets the unique behavior and activity patterns of dogs from sleeping and scratching to barking and more. Owners can follow their pet’s progress and set goals through the associated app, giving them a greater understanding of their pet’s health and well-being.

The company also will demonstrate its SUREFEED Microchip Pet Feeder Connect, a connected feeder that helps prevent pets stealing food from co-habiting pet’s bowls, while also recording the time and weight of food eaten. This information creates a detailed understanding of a pet’s feeding patterns through the SURE PETCARE app, giving owners the opportunity to spot potential health issues if there are changes in their feeding habits.

Sure Petcare will be at CES Unveiled on Jan. 6. The main CES event will be held Jan. 7-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
