(PRESS RELEASE) ST. LOUIS – Tiki Cat has launched a new family of wet cat foods for sensitive felines with special dietary needs. Called Tiki Cat Special, the line includes three functional formulas — Tiki Cat Special Fussy, Tiki Cat Special Skin & Coat, and Tiki Cat Special Light – for finicky eaters with digestive issues, cats with skin and coat sensitivities, and felines who carry too much weight, respectively.

Each recipe is high in protein and contains its own special blend of ingredients to help with each particular condition. Tiki Cat Special Fussy is made with highly palatable, nutrient-dense duck liver to tempt even the pickiest eaters. Egg, the most digestible protein source, is added to support digestive health, while pumpkin, an insoluble fiber, increases intestinal motility and helps reduce hairball regurgitation.

Tiki Cat Special Skin & Coat uses Omega 3-rich salmon and tuna oils to reduce skin inflammation and add shine to coats. Zinc and vitamin B also promote skin and coat health, and coconut oil is included to help minimize allergic reactions.

Tiki Cat Special Light contains 40% less fat than Tiki Cat’s popular Velvet Chicken diet, combining chicken with lower-calorie turkey and including L-Carnitine, an amino acid that boosts metabolism. The recipe also contains pumpkin to help increase intestinal motility in less active cats.

“Now people with sensitive cats can get the natural, high-protein diet that Tiki Cat is known for in a recipe that meets their pet’s special dietary needs,” said Erica Vogt, trade marketing manager for Tiki Cat. “Our new Tiki Cat Special foods address conditions that are very common in cats, which is why we expect demand for these products to be extremely strong.”

Nearly 60% of domestic cats are overweight or obese, according to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOPO). Skin problems are prevalent in cats too, with up to 15% of the feline patients seen at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine having at least one dermatological issue.

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
